Technical Information
To ensure autorun and distribution:
Modifies the following registry keys:
- [<HKLM>\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] 'Shell' = 'explorer.exe, killer.exe'
- [<HKCU>\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] 'Runonce' = '%WINDIR%\smss.exe'
Creates or modifies the following files:
- %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\lsass.exe
Creates the following files on removable media:
- <Drive name for removable media>:\Funny UST Scandal.avi.exe
- <Drive name for removable media>:\smss.exe
- <Drive name for removable media>:\autorun.inf
Malicious functions:
To complicate detection of its presence in the operating system,
forces the system hide from view:
- hidden files
Modifies file system :
Creates the following files:
- C:\autorun.inf
- C:\smss.exe
- C:\Funny UST Scandal.avi.exe
- %WINDIR%\Funny UST Scandal.exe
- %WINDIR%\autorun.inf
- %WINDIR%\smss.exe
- %WINDIR%\killer.exe
Sets the 'hidden' attribute to the following files:
- C:\smss.exe
- <Drive name for removable media>:\autorun.inf
- <Drive name for removable media>:\smss.exe
- C:\autorun.inf
- %WINDIR%\killer.exe
- %WINDIR%\smss.exe
- %WINDIR%\autorun.inf
Deletes the following files:
- <Drive name for removable media>:\autorun.inf
- C:\autorun.inf
Miscellaneous:
Searches for the following windows:
- ClassName: 'Indicator' WindowName: '(null)'
- ClassName: 'Shell_TrayWnd' WindowName: '(null)'
