To ensure autorun and distribution:
Modifies the following registry keys:
- [<HKLM>\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] 'PCIAudioDevice' = '<SYSTEM32>\winauddev.exe'
- [<HKLM>\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] 'SystemBIOSx86' = '<SYSTEM32>\sysbiosx86.exe'
- [<HKCU>\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] 'MSNWebLink' = '%WINDIR%\msnweblink.exe'
Creates or modifies the following files:
- %HOMEPATH%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\WinRoute.exe
Creates the following files on removable media:
- <Drive name for removable media>:\www.cpu-support.com
- <Drive name for removable media>:\autorun.inf
Malicious functions:
To complicate detection of its presence in the operating system,
blocks execution of the following system utilities:
- Command Prompt (CMD)
- Windows Task Manager (Taskmgr)
- Registry Editor (RegEdit)
Creates and executes the following:
- '<SYSTEM32>\winauddev.exe' /pid=3032
- '%WINDIR%\msnweblink.exe' /pid=3768
- '<SYSTEM32>\winauddev.exe'
- '%WINDIR%\msnweblink.exe'
- '<SYSTEM32>\sysbiosx86.exe'
Modifies file system :
Creates the following files:
- <SYSTEM32>\winauddev.exe
- <SYSTEM32>\sysbiosx86.exe
- %WINDIR%\msnweblink.exe
Sets the 'hidden' attribute to the following files:
- <Drive name for removable media>:\autorun.inf
- <Drive name for removable media>:\www.cpu-support.com
Miscellaneous:
Searches for the following windows:
- ClassName: 'Indicator' WindowName: '(null)'
